Love seafood? Love a great Aussie experience? Love a good host? You can’t go past Cairns Catcha Crab as one of the most authentic fishing and crabbing tours in Cairns.

Owned by Tony Hodgetts, Catcha Crab has been operating for over 20 years, taking thousands of visitors out on a memorable day of fishing, catching crabs and best of all, eating the catch for the day. Here at Cairns Lifestyle, we have had the pleasure and honour of meeting Tony, who is, let us say, nothing short of a legend. You will not meet a better entertainer, nor will you be likely to meet a host as down to earth and fun as Tony.

Upon your journey, you depart from the pier, heading into Trinity Inlet. Along the way, Tony will give you a fantastic local insight into the environment, culture and last but not least, fishing and mud crabbing. Throughout the day, you can partake in fishing (with hand lines or fishing rods), the process of catching mud crabs and have a good chat with Tony and the passengers as you slowly make your way through the beautiful mangroves and backwaters of Cairns.

With Catcha Crab, you are GUARANTEED a lunch of mud crab. Tony knows his stuff, he’s been doing it for years. He also knows how to make a mean lunch! After the crabs and fish are caught, Tony cooks them on the boat. It doesn’t get any fresher than that and Tony takes no short cuts when it comes to food preparation or presentation. You will enjoy a sumptuous seafood lunch on the waters of Trinity Inlet as Tony caters for your every need.

If you are not in the mood for fishing and just want to relax, no worries. Gaze upon the beautiful mountain and waterway backdrops as the boat manoeuvres through the stunning mangrove waters. While you’re at it, grab a drink from the fridge. Catcha Crab is stocked with your local alcoholic drops and sodas, all at very reasonable prices. On the way back after lunch, you may get lucky and experience a couple of hidden talents Tony has. We won’t say anything else but “true blue” comes to mind. No host comes closer to a true Aussie experience.

So if you’re on the hunt for a good day out on the water and have a hunger for some local and very fresh seafood, make sure you book a day out with Catcha Crab. Guaranteed a good feed and a fantastic day out, there’s nothing better. You don’t want to spoil this day though, as it is one of the best things to so in Cairns, so slip, slop, slap!

Hate a fantastic day out. Tony was a great host and I even caught a few big fish. I never catch fish! Thanks Tony.
