Located on the waterfront of the Cairns CBD, Cairns Esplanade is absolutely brimming with activities and events throughout the year for those looking for things to do in Cairns. For many visiting or living in Cairns, the Cairns CBD is a popular location for shopping, restaurants, night life or just a good old fashioned browse around the city, yet one part of town remains particularly popular. The Cairns Esplanade.
Stretching along the waterfront of the town, Cairns Esplanade provides a fantastic range of activities for anyone and everyone. Fist and foremost is the ever popular Esplanade Lagoon, a man made salt water swimming lagoon spanning 4800 sq metres, providing tourists and locals with a safe and enjoyable swimming experience all year round. Feeling active? There is a fantastic range of free fitness programs provided Mondays through to Saturdays, including Aqua Aerobics, Beach Volleyball, Yoga, Zumba, Boxercise, Pilates and more. Classes are held morning and nights, so you can usually find something that you like at a suitable time of the day.
After entertainment? There are live music events hosted on most weekends, providing a selection of musical genres from both local and Australian musicians. Chill out on the grass under the shade and enjoy the tunes with friends and family and take in the ambience. Markets are also held on every Saturday between the hours of 8.00 am – 4.00 pm, showcasing an array of local arts, crafts, jewellry, clothes and even massage stalls. We admit, it’s nice to receive a massage after a long day of walking around town, it really takes the edge off. Relax. Enjoy.
Relaxing is probably the dominant theme here. On the Esplanade you will often find people reading books, sun baking, enjoying a nice family BBQ and even families taking the kids to Muddy’s Playground for some water play and fun on the many playgrounds. Sometimes the area is so quiet on a weekday afternoon that all you can hear is birds. Yes, for a good day out, you certainly can’t go wrong with Cairns Esplanade. Catering for both locals and tourists 7 days a week, you’re certain to find something you like and with most activities being free, it’s a no brainer. Check it out!
