Just because it’s night doesn’t mean the only things to do in Cairns are pubs and restaurants. For a majority of the wildlife in the the area, things are just about to kick off! Watch the night come alive and discover Cairns on a whole new level at Cairns Night Zoo!
Operating between 7 pm – 10 pm, Cairns Night Zoo is certainly one of those wildlife experiences with a difference.
Start the night with a good ol’ fashioned Aussie BBQ, consisting of steak, sausages, seafood and salads, followed by dessert. When you’re done with dinner, it’s time to get out into the night and meet the local nocturnal wildlife.
Armed with a torch light and a knowledgeable guide, you will head out into the park to discover and learn about some of the animals you will encounter, including crocodiles, possums, koalas and many more creatures of the night.
There’s little chance of you getting lost out in this bush, but if you do in the future and you’re outback, there’s no need to fret. By the end of the night (as long as the stars are out) you’ll be geared up for some basic survival techniques. Learning how to read and identify the star constellations is not only useful in the bush, it’s also really cool!
After you’ve had your fair share of discovery, it’s time to head back to base, where you can enjoy a traditional swagmans meal of tea and damper. Sit around the camp fire and learn about days of old. Who knows? You may get lucky and get a visit from some of the local kangaroos. Feed a kangaroo, sipping tea and eating damper around a pit fire at night. It doesn’t get much more Aussie than that!
Follow up with some complimentary beer and wine and join the gang at Cairns Night Zoo for some traditional bush dancing and songs. They really get the crowd into it, so even if you’re not big on dancing you’ll find yourself getting out there on the floor!
Yes, the team at Cairns Night Zoo really know how to put on a good time and although the night does cater for all ages, we do recommend that if you are looking for Cairns attractions for kids, you bring the older ones.
Tips and Tricks
Pick your nights. Cairns Night Zoo is considerably less enjoyable when it is raining.
We don’t advise taking young children. By the time the night is over you could well have some very cranky kiddies!
This tour is highly recommended for urban Australians and overseas tourists.
So just remember, when you’re out and about and thinking about which restaurant or pub to hit in Cairns at night, remember there are other great options. Cairns Night Zoo operates Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday night, so they have most of the week covered.
