Hunting for some cool Cairns attractions? Welcome to the DOME! No, it isn’t two men enter, one man leaves, however the leaving part can be hard! When some of our staff were on the lookout for things to do in Cairns, the Dome was one of the first venues we attended and to be honest, we were not disappointed.
Opened in 2003, Cairns Wildlife Dome is a fantastic day out with the partner, friends and especially fantastic if you’re looking for things to do in Cairns with kids. Whether you live in Cairns or are just passing through, put it on your check-list.
The dome, located in Cairns Reef Hotel Casino on the waterfront of town, spans 20 metre high, full to the brim with rainforest plants, exotic birds, mammals and reptiles. They even have resident crocodiles.
Stroll through the simulated rainforest as you encounter some magnificent animals, all in the luxury of the dome. That’s the beautiful thing about the Cairns Wildlife Dome. If it’s too hot in Cairns and you’re after things to do in Cairns that involve seeing some of the local animals, it’s a great location. If it’s raining, then it’s all good, they got you “covered”.
Rain, hail or shine the Cairns Wildlife Dome is always operational and also an awesome alternative if you’re restricted by weather. Not to say it’s not worth of visiting on a fine day, it’s just that if there is a rainy day and you’re feeling washed out and after a relaxing time, the Cairns Wildlife Dome is often the perfect solution.
Shows are on all throughout the day, so there is plenty of interactive and educational action for yourself and the kids. Our favourite is the kookaburra feeding. We love those cheeky buggers and they are known to even steal sausages right off a BBQ while they are still being cooked. So… for a day out as a couple or a family looking for things to do in Cairns, be sure to check out the Cairns Wildlife Dome.
