Waterfalls! There are so many to choose from in the region, but if you’re out and about and wanting a cool place to chill, Emerald Creek is a great location out on the Atherton Tablelands. Similar in terrain to Davies Creek, this is a crystal clear fresh water creek with waterfalls gushing over granite rock. Emerald Creek belongs to the Dinden West Forest Reserve (part of National Park).

Once you park the car, there are plenty of small openings and still water pools to take a dip. No camping here.

Facilities available at Emerald Creek include BBQ (wood/coin), toilets, picnic areas, easy walks, dogs allowed on leash, cycling and swimming.

How to get to Emerald Creek – Take the Kennedy Highway from Cairns, towards Mareeba. Approximately 3km before Mareeba turn off, turn left at sign onto Tinaroo Creek Road. Follow Tinaroo Creek Road down about 3km. Turn left into Cobra Road. After 2km of sealed road, the final 6km of road is dirt. Careful as the road can be steep in places and not suitable for caravans or trailers.
