Love koalas? Get your cuddle on when you’re looking for things to do in Cairns and head to Kuranda Koala Gardens for some furry fun!
Who has fond childhood memories of cuddling their teddy bear? Going to sleep as an infant knowing that your teddy was close by to protect you from the scary monsters? We are pretty certain that the answer is….everybody on the PLANET!
Located in the Kuranda Heritage Markets, Kuranda Koala Gardens is a sure winner if you’re planning a day up in Kuranda and looking for things to do involving some good old fashioned local wildlife experiences.
Get your photo taken with a cuddly koala, stare off a fresh water crocodile, feed the resident kangaroos and wallabies or even try to catch a glimpse of the often elusive wombat as he waddles around his habitat. Kuranda Koala Gardens certainly does have some cute little residents and others not so cute!
Get up close and personal with some amazing reptiles including the ‘Walk Through Snake House’ to view some very deadly, scaly, slithery snakes. You will also find some really amazing lizards and monitors located in the complex, some camouflaged so well you might have to take a second glance!
All this excitement is great for both adults and children, so if you are after a good day out with the kids, you won’t be disappointed with the interactivity both yourself and the children can have with the wildlife in the park.
Tips and Tricks
As soft and sweet smelling as koalas look, they actually smell pretty bad, so be ready for a whiff of “reality”. Such deceiving little cute things aren’t they! Especially if they wee on you.
Like any zoos that allow you to handle animals, always be gentle and give the animals room.
When you’re done, be sure to check out some of the cool shops in town for cafes, arts and crafts, souveneirs, food and more.
So if you’re thinking about looking around for some sweet Cairns attractions, be sure to head up Kuranda way and get your hands around a cuddly koala! You’ll be glad you did. Just don’t tell Teddy!
