One of the biggest Cairns attractions is its wildlife and crocodiles are amongst the most popular. These prehistoric giants are often sought after in Cairns by tourists, yet if you want a fantastic crocodile filled day out, Hartleys Crocodile Adventures is your best bet.
A favourite amongst tourists for things to do in Cairns, Hartleys is a crocodile and wildlife park located 40 minutes North of Cairns and is quite frankly, the best way to get as close to a crocodile as possible without having to change your pants! Hartleys is home to hundreds of crocodiles. Hundreds! As a functional commercial crocodile farm since 1989, there aren’t many that know more about crocodiles than the staff at Hartleys.
Now, there are a few features of the park if you want to get up close and personal with some of the bad boys. Tours run throughout the day, where you can watch crocodile feeding (the sound of the jaws snapping is spine tingling), take a boat trip through Hartley’s lagoon to see them in a simulated habitat (don’t worry, the boat is caged) and you can check out the farm itself and learn about the processes involved in farming crocodiles. All this talk about crocodiles, yet Hartleys is home to many other wonderful animals.
You will come across cassowary’s, koalas, exotic birds in the walk through aviary, turtles and reptiles you never could have imagined in your wildest dreams. Hartleys also provides a fantastic education centre, where adults and children can learn more about the wonderful animals in a dun and educational way. All this excitement and adventure is going to make you hungry, so make sure you check out the cafe/restaurant, where you can get a bite to eat. Even a croc burger. Yummy!
So if you have a fever for things to do in Cairns and the only prescription is crocodile action, be sure to check out Hartleys. It’s a great fun filled day for the whole family.
