Both 24 and 48 hour tickets are available for purchase and the Cairns City Explorer have the option of taking their 60 minute tour around the city or the extended 90 minute tour heads north up north out of town. Departing every 30 minutes from The Pier terminal bus bay, passengers also have a range of departure times to choose from. This flexibility is a tremendous feature of the Explorer.
If you’re looking for things to do in Cairns with kids, the children will absolutely love it. The top level of the bus provides a 360 degree view as it travels along its route and the kids will go bananas for the stop off points at Muddy’s Playground, Cairns Wildlife Dome and the Cairns Botanic Gardens.
Feeling like a bit of a party in Cairns? The Explorer also makes a stop off at Gilligans Backapcker Hotel and The Jack, both notorious party hot spots for locals and backpackers alike. If you prefer a slower pace and are maybe out for a bit of shopping, Cairns City Explorer stops off at Rusty’s Markets, Cairns Night Markets and Cairns Central Shopping Centre.
Planning to head up Kuranda Village? The extended tour can take you right to the doorstep of Skyrail, which provides visitors with the opportunity to travel up into Kuranda and over the rainforest canopies in a gondola, with stunning regional views on the way up the mountain. Right next door to Skyrail you also have Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, so if you are after that real indigenous experience, both day and evening shows are available.
Cairns City Explorer operates 7 days week with the 60 minutes tour operating from 9:00am to 12 noon and the 90 minutes extended tour operating from 12 noon until 5:00pm, with all services terminating at 6:30pm.
